Democratic Voices in Naya Bharat

Abstract

The ten years of the Modi regime obviously represents a new turn in the history of postcolonial India. But how do we understand it historically? In what way the BJP government transformed the Indian polity and to what extent it built on certain long-term features in Indian democracy? Placing the Modi years historically, we will look at continuities and discontinuities both at the level of state and society. We will examine the politics of dissent confronting and challenging the politics of Hindu nationalism.
